ܕܗܵܐ ܡܢܲܤܲܝ ܥܘܼܡܪܵܐ ܕܙܲܒ݂ܢܵܐ: ܕܥܲܡܠܵܐ ܗ̄ܘܼ ܒܲܠܚܘܿܕ݂
فَهَا أَنَا اخْتَبَرْتُ مَجْرَى الزَّمَانِ، أَنَّهُ تَعَبٌ فَقَطْ
d-hā mnasaī ʿūmrā d-zavnā: d-ʿamlā hāw ba-l-ḥōdh
For behold, I have tested the course of time, that it is toil alone
Car voici, j'ai éprouvé le cours du temps, qu'il n'est que peine
ܘܲܬ݂ܥܵܫܵܐ܀
وَمَشَقَّةٌ.
wa-thʿāshā.
and hardship.
et rigueur.
ܠܲܥܠܲܝܡܘܼܬ݂ܵܐ ܢܲܩܝܼܦܵܐ: ܤܲܝܒ݁ܘܼܬ݂ܵܐ ܘܲܡܚܝܼܠܘܼܬ݂ܵܐ.
بِالشَّبَابِ تَقْتَرِنُ الشَّيْخُوخَةُ وَالضَّعْفُ،
la-ʿlaymūthā naqīpā: saybūthā wa-mḥīlūthā.
To youth is joined old age and weakness,
À la jeunesse est jointe la vieillesse, et la faiblesse,
ܘܲܠܝܲܥܢܘܼܬ݂ܵܐ ܠܵܘܝܵܐ ܠܵܗ̇: ܠܹܐܘܬ݂ܵܐ ܕܟ݂ܘܼܢܵܫ ܡܵܡܘܿܢܵܐ܀
وَبِالفَقْرِ يُلَازِمُهُ تَعَبُ جَمْعِ المَالِ.
wa-l-yaʿnūthā lāwyā lāh: lēwthā d-khūnāsh māmōnā.
and to poverty clings the weariness of amassing wealth.
et à la pauvreté s'attache la lassitude d'amasser la richesse.
ܠܤܲܒ݂ܥܘܼܬܵܐ ܡܲܐܝܼܢܘܼܬܵܐ: ܘܲܠܦܲܚܙܘܼܬܵܐ ܬܘܵܬ݂ ܢܲܦܫܵܐ.
بِالشِّبَعِ يَلْزَمُ الفُتُورُ، وَبِالإِفْرَاطِ نَدَامَةُ النَّفْسِ،
l-savʿūtā maīnūtā: wa-l-paḥzūtā twāth napshā.
To fullness clings sluggishness, and to excess, remorse of soul,
À la satiété s'attache la torpeur, et à l'excès, le remords de l'âme,
ܘܟ݂ܠ ܚܸܙܘܵܐ ܕܐܝܼܬ݂ ܒܲܝܢܵܬܲܢ: ܥܵܩܬ݂ܵܐ ܡܕ݂ܝܼܩܵܐ ܡ̣ܢ ܓܵܘܵܗ̇܀
وَكُلُّ مَنْظَرٍ بَيْنَنَا، يُطِلُّ الحُزْنُ مِنْ دَاخِلِهِ.
w-kul ḥezwā d-ʾīth ba-ynātan: ʿāqthā mdhīqā men gāwāh.
and every sight there is among us — sorrow peers out from within it.
et toute vision qui existe parmi nous — la tristesse y perce de l'intérieur.
ܚܲܕ݂ ܗ̄ܘ̣ ܕܹܝܢ ܥܲܡܠܵܐ ܒܲܠܚܘܿܕ݂: ܕܠܲܝܬ݁ ܤܲܒ݂ܥܵܐ ܠܲܕ݂ܦܵܠܲܚ̇ ܒܹܗ.
لَكِنَّ تَعَبًا وَاحِدًا فَقَطْ، لَا شِبَعَ فِيهِ لِمَنْ يَعْمَلُهُ،
ḥadh hāw dēyn ʿamlā ba-l-ḥōdh: d-layt savʿā la-d-pālaḥ bēh.
But there is one labor alone in which the laborer finds no satiety,
Mais il n'est qu'un seul labeur, dans lequel l'ouvrier ne trouve pas de satiété,
ܗܲܝܡܵܢܘܼܬ݂ܵܐ ܘܬܲܩܢܘܼܬ݂ܵܐ: ܕܦܘܼܪܥܵܢܗܹܝܢ ܠܵܐ ܡܸܬ݂ܚܲܒܲܠ܀
هُوَ الإِيمَانُ وَالاسْتِقَامَةُ، اللَّذَانِ لَا يَفْسُدُ ثَوَابُهُمَا.
haymānūthā w-taqnūthā: d-pūrʿānhēyn lā methḥabal.
faith and uprightness, whose reward is never spoiled.
la foi et la droiture, dont la récompense jamais ne se corrompt.

ܬܵܘ ܢܹܐܠܲܦ ܐܘܿ ܚܲܛܵܝܹ̈ܐ: ܕܐܲܝܟܲܢ ܬܝܵܒ݂ܘܼܬܵܐ ܬܸܗܘܸܐ.
تَعَالَوْا نَتَعَلَّمْ، أَيُّهَا الخَطَأَةُ، كَيْفَ تَكُونُ التَّوْبَةُ،
tāw nēlap ʾō ḥaṭāyē: d-aykan tyāvūtā tehwe.
Come, let us learn, sinners, how repentance should be,
Venez, apprenons, pécheurs, comment doit être le repentir,
ܘܐܲܝܢܵܐ ܕܐܝܼܬ݂ ܠܹܗ ܒܘܼܨܵܪܹ̈ܐ: ܢܸܫܡܲܥ ܕܲܒ݂ܡܵܢ ܡܸܫܬܲܒ݂ܩܝܼܢ܀
وَمَنْ كَانَتْ لَهُ نَقَائِصُ، فَلْيَسْمَعْ بِمَ تُغْفَرُ.
w-aynā d-ʾīth lēh b-w-ṣārē: neshmaʿ da-b-men meshtavqīn.
and whoever has failings, let him hear by what they are forgiven.
et quiconque a des manquements, qu'il entende par quoi ils sont pardonnés.
ܢܲܝܬܸܐ ܬܲܚܘܝܼܬ݂ܵܐ ܕܡܲܨܝܵܐ: ܕܲܬ݂ܢܲܗܲܪ ܗܸܕܝܘܿܛܘܼܬܲܢ.
لِنَأْتِ بِبُرْهَانٍ يُمْكِنُ أَنْ يُنِيرَ بَسَاطَتَنَا،
nayte taḥwīthā d-maṣyā: da-thnahar hedyōṭūtan.
Let us bring proof that can enlighten our simplicity,
Apportons une preuve capable d'éclairer notre simplicité,
ܘܲܕ݂ܡܘܼܬܵܐ ܕܩܲܢܝܵܐ ܚܲܝܠܵܐ: ܕܬܲܦܢܸܐ ܠܲܢ ܨܝܕ݂ ܟܹܐܢܘܼܬ݂ܵܐ܀
وَمِثَالًا فِيهِ قُوَّةٌ، يَرُدُّنَا إِلَى البِرِّ.
wa-d-mūtā d-qanyā ḥaylā: d-tapne lan ṣydh kēnūthā.
and a likeness with power in it, to turn us back toward righteousness.
et une image qui a en elle la force de nous ramener vers la justice.
ܢܠܲܒܸ݁ܒ݂ ܐܲܚܲܝ̈ ܠܲܚܕ݂ܵܕܹ̈ܐ: ܒܲܩܪܵܒ݂ܵܐ ܕܲܪܡܹܝܢܲܢ ܒܹܗ.
لِنُشَجِّعْ، أَيُّهَا الإِخْوَةُ، بَعْضُنَا بَعْضًا، فِي الحَرْبِ الَّتِي أُلْقِينَا فِيهَا،
nlabev aḥaī la-ḥdhādē: ba-qrāvā da-rmēynan bēh.
Let us encourage one another, brothers, in the battle we are cast into,
