ܒܥܸܕܵܢ ܪܘܼܓ݂ܙܵܐ ܡܵܪܘܿܕܵܐ ܗܼ̄ܘ: ܘܲܒ݂ܬܲܪܥܘܼܬܹܗ ܛܵܥ̇ܘܿܢܵܐ ܗ̄ܘ̣.
في زَمَنِ الغَضَبِ هوَ مُتَمَرِّدٌ، وبِرَأيِهِ هوَ تائِهٌ.
b-ʿedān rūghzā mārōdā hāw: wa-b-tarʿūtēh ṭāʿōnā hāw.
In time of wrath he is rebellious, and in his own counsel he goes astray.
Au temps de la colère, il est rebelle, et dans son propre conseil, il s'égare.
ܟܲܕ݂ ܡܸܬ݂ܚܲܡܲܬ݂ ܩܵܛܘܿܠܵܐ ܗܼ̄ܘ: ܘܟܲܕ݂ ܡܸܫܬܲܝܲܢ ܬܲܡܝܼܡܵܐ ܗܼ̄ܘ܀
حينَ يَحتَدُّ هوَ قاتِلٌ، وحينَ يَهدَأُ هوَ بارٌّ.
kad methḥamath qāṭōlā hāw: w-kad meshtayan tamīmā hāw.
When he is enraged he is a murderer, and when he is at ease he is upright.
Quand il s'irrite, il est meurtrier ; et quand il est en paix, il est droit.
ܘܲܒ݂ܬܲܪ̈ܬܲܝܗܹܝܢ ܡܲܟ݂ܪܸܙ ܠܲܢ: ܢܵܡܘܿܤܵܐ ܟܲܤܝܵܐ ܕܡܵܪܹܗ.
وفي كِلتَيهِما يُنادي لَنا، بِالنّاموسِ الخَفِيِّ لِرَبِّهِ،
wa-b-tartayhēyn makhrez lan: nāmōsā kasyā d-mārēh.
and in both of these he proclaims to us the hidden law of his Lord,
et dans ces deux états, il nous proclame la loi cachée de son Seigneur,
ܘܐܲܝܟ݂ ܕܲܒ݂ܨܒ݂ܥܵܐ ܪܵܡܹ̇ܙ ܠܲܢ: ܕܡܲܢܼܘܼ ܤܵܡܹܗ ܠܫܘܼܥܒܵܕܵܐ܀
وكَأَنَّهُ بِإصبَعٍ يُشيرُ لَنا، مَن ذا الّذي وَضَعَهُ تَحتَ الخُضوعِ.
w-aykh da-b-ṣvʿā rāmēz lan: d-manīū sāmēh l-shūʿbādā.
and, as with a finger, he shows us who it was that set him under bondage.
et, comme du doigt, il nous montre qui l'a mis sous le joug.
ܕܗܵܘ̇ ܕܲܬ̈ܠܵܗ̇ ܡ̣ܢ ܫܘܼܪܵܝܵܐ: ܠܲܒ݂ܪܝܼܬܵܐ ܥܲܠ ܠܵܐ ܡܸܕܸܡ.
ذاكَ الّذي مِنَ البَدءِ رَبَطَ الخَليقَةَ، مِن غَيرِ عِلَّةٍ،
d-hāw da-tlāh men shūrāyā: la-b-rītā ʿal lā medem.
He who from the beginning has bound creation, for no cause of its own,
Celui qui, dès le commencement, a lié la création, sans qu'elle en soit la cause,
ܗ݀ܘ ܦܵܩܹ̇ܕ݂ ܠܹܗ ܠܚܲܤܝܼܢܵܐ: ܕܢܸܬܲܠ ܢܲܦ̮ܫܹܗ ܠܥܲܒ݂ܕܘܼܬܲܢ܀
هوَ يَأمُرُ القَوِيَّ، أن يُسَلِّمَ نَفسَهُ لِخِدمَتِنا.
hāw pāqēdh lēh l-ḥasīnā: d-netal napshēh l-ʿavdūtan.
he it is who commands the mighty one to give itself into our service.
c'est lui qui commande au puissant de se livrer à notre service.
ܐܵܦܸܢ ܗܵܫܵܐ ܢܸܬ݂ܟܲܚ̈ܕ݂ܵܢ: ܢܲܦ̈ܫܵܬ݂ܵܐ ܡ̣ܢ ܚܲܝ̈ܘܵܬ݂ܵܐ.
وإنْ كانَ الآنَ تَخزى، النُّفوسُ مِنَ الحَيَواناتِ،
āpen hāshā nethkaḥdhān: napshāthā men ḥaywāthā.
Even now let souls be put to shame by beasts,
Que maintenant même les âmes soient couvertes de honte par les bêtes,
ܕܚܲܝ̈ܘܵܬܵܐ ܢ̣ܛܲܪ ܢܵܡܘܿܤܵܐ: ܘܢܲܦ̈ܫܵܬܵܐ ܫܒܲܩ̣ ܦܘܼܩܕܵܢܵܐ܀
لأَنَّ الحَيَواناتِ حَفِظَتِ النّاموسَ، والنُّفوسَ تَرَكَتِ الوَصِيَّةَ.
d-ḥaywātā nṭar nāmōsā: w-napshātā shbaq pūqdānā.
for the beasts have kept the law, while souls have forsaken the commandment.
car les bêtes ont gardé la loi, tandis que les âmes ont abandonné le commandement.
ܒܲܚܡܵܪܵܐ ܘܬܵܘܪܵܐ ܕܵܢܹܗ: ܐܲܠܵܗܵܐ ܠܥܲܡܵܐ ܩܲܕܡܵܐ.
بِالحِمارِ والثَّورِ دانَ، اللهُ الشَّعبَ الأَوَّلَ،
ba-ḥmārā w-tāwrā dānēh: alāhā l-ʿamā qadmā.
By the donkey and the ox God judged the former people,
Par l'âne et le bœuf, Dieu a jugé le premier peuple,
ܘܒܲܤܢܘܿܢܝܼܬܵܐ ܘܫܘܿܦܢܝܼܢܵܐ: ܩܲܛܪܸܓ݂ ܥܵܒ݂ܪ̈ܝ ܦܘܼܩܕܵܢܵܘ̈ܗܝ܀
وبِالسُّنونوَةِ والفاخِتَةِ، اشتَكى على مُتَعَدّي وَصاياهُ.
w-ba-snōnītā w-shōpnīnā: qaṭregh ʿāvrī pūqdānāwhī.
and by the swallow and the turtledove he accused the transgressors of his commandments.
et par l'hirondelle et la tourterelle, il a accusé les transgresseurs de ses commandements.
ܢܚܘܼܪ ܗܵܟܹܝܠ ܒܲܩܢܘܿܡܲܢ: ܘܚܲܝ̈ܐ ܢܵܘܪܸܬ݂ ܠܲܩܢܘܿܡܲܢ.
لِنَنظُرْ إذًا إلى أَنفُسِنا، ولِتُنِرِ الحَياةُ أَنفُسَنا،
nḥūr hākēyl ba-qnōman: w-ḥay nāwreth la-qnōman.
Let us look, then, at ourselves, and let life shed its light upon us,
Regardons donc en nous-mêmes, et que la vie répande sa lumière sur nous,
ܘܒܲܚܙܵܬ݂ܵܐ ܕܲܚ̣ܙܲܝ̈ ܥܲܝܢܹ̈ܐ: ܚܝܵܪܹܗ ܕܠܸܒܵܐ ܢܸܬ݂ܢܲܗܲܪ܀
وبِالرُّؤيَةِ الّتي أَبصَرَتها العَينانِ، لِتَستَنِرْ نَظرَةُ القَلبِ.
w-ba-ḥzāthā da-ḥzaī ʿaynē: ḥyārēh d-lebā nethnahar.
and by the sight that the eyes have seen, let the gaze of the heart be enlightened.
et par la vue que les yeux ont vue, que le regard du cœur soit illuminé.
ܝܠܹܗ ܕܡܲܠܦܵܢܵܐ ܡܵܪܝ ܐܝܼܤܝܵܐ
لِلمُعَلِّمِ مار إسحق،

الضَّرَباتِ الّتي تَجَمَّعَت وأَتَتْ عَلَينا، جَمَعَها في تَضَرُّعٍ وأَتى بِها إلَينا:
maḥwāth da-khnash w-etaī: l-vāʿūtā knash w-aytī lan.
The blows that gathered and came upon us he gathered into a plea, and set it before us:
Les coups qui se sont amassés et sont venus sur nous, il les a rassemblés en une supplique, et il l'a mise devant nous :
ܐܝܼܬ݂ ܕܲܒ݂ܚܲܫܵܐ ܐܸܬ݂ܟܲܢܲܫ: ܘܐܝܼܬ݂ ܕܲܒ݂ܫܸܓ݂ܡܵܐ ܐܸܬ݂ܥܵܘܲܪ܀
مِنهُم مَن جُمِعَ في الأَلَمِ، ومِنهُم مَن عَمِيَ في الحَماقَةِ.
ʾīth da-b-ḥashā ethkanash: w-ʾīth da-b-sheghmā ethʿāwar.
Some were gathered in suffering, and some were blinded in folly.
Les uns furent recueillis dans la souffrance, et les autres furent aveuglés dans la folie.
