da-khyānā lā methqalas: w-en ṣevyānēh lā marwaḥ.

Nature is not praised, if its will does not enlarge it,

wa-d-ṣevyānā lā bāhēth: en ḥērūtēh lā teṣbe.

and the will is not put to shame, if its freedom does not desire it.

hālēyn da-qrēyth da-khyānā: d-lā yādhēʿīn pārōshūtā.

These things you have called nature do not know discernment;

Ces choses que tu as appelées nature ne connaissent pas le discernement ;

ʿal kaylē wa-mnāwāthā: w-pūrshānē d-ba-ṣlem ādām.

concerning measures and portions, and the distinctions within the image of Adam,

ʿal zāwʿē w-ʿal ṣevayānē: shaqlanī reʿyānī d-ēmalel.

concerning motions and concerning wills — my mind has taken me to speak;

au sujet des mouvements et des volontés — mon esprit m'a poussé à parler ;

ʿal kūnāyē w-qeryānē: d-hadāmē wa-d-ḥūshābē.

concerning the names and the callings of the members and of the thoughts,

ʿal ṭaksē w-ʿal eskēmē: gāwāyē āp ba-rāyē.

concerning the orders and the forms, the inner as well as the outer.

methqaryā ʿaynā b-paghrā: āp edhnā w-pūmā w-ʾīdā.

The eye is named in the body, and also the ear, the mouth, and the hand;

L'œil est nommé dans le corps, ainsi que l'oreille, la bouche et la main ;

knīshūthhōn dēyn ḥadh medem: d-paghrā ba-l-ḥōdh methamrīn.

but their sum is one thing — they are simply called the body.

āp b-hāw ba-rnāshā da-l-gāw: ʾīth kwnāyē aykh reghshē.

In that inner man too there are names, like the senses,

w-ḥwshābē aykh hadāmē: da-b-hōn āp hāw methḥashaḥ.

and thoughts like members, by which he too does his work.

ʾīth tarʿīthā w-ḥūshāvā: ʾīth b-w-yānā w-sūkālā.

There is intention and thought; there is comprehension and understanding.

ʾīth madʿā āp reʿyānā: ʾīth ṣevyānā w-ḥērūtā.

There is intellect and mind; there is will and freedom.

Il y a l'intellect et l'esprit ; il y a la volonté et la liberté.

d-ḥadh ḥadh hākēyl men hālēyn: īdhīʿīn nōn ʿvādayhōn.

Each one of these, then — its works are known;

Chacune d'elles donc — ses œuvres sont connues ;

ḥadh men ḥadh klhōn mqablīn: w-ḥadh l-ḥadh klhōn ʿānēyn.

each receives from the other, and each answers to the other.

ba-ḥdā ṣvū klhōn rāhṭīn: b-ṭakhsā d-qārē l-kul sūʿrān.

toward one purpose they all run, in the order that calls forth every deed.

b-ḥadh ʿvādā klhōn lāēyn: d-kul ḥadh ḥadh menhōn b-zavnēh.

in one work they all labor, each one of them in its own time,

aykh mānē ʿal ḥeshlāthā: ʿārēyn enōn b-khlmedem.

like vessels upon the forge, they are laid bare in everything.

qadhmāyā b-hōn tarʿīthā: trayānīthā maḥshavthā.

First among them is intention; second is thought;

La première parmi elles est l'intention ; la seconde est la pensée ;

b-w-yānā āp sūkālā: w-ʿam madʿā w-āp reʿyānā.

comprehension too, and understanding, together with intellect and mind.

yadhīʿīn nōn ḥaylayhōn: wa-prīshīn sūʿrānayhōn.

Their powers are known, and their workings are distinct.

d-tarʿīthā ʿvādāh hānāw: d-methraʿyā d-mnā nehwe.

For intention's work is this: that it is conceived what shall come to be;

Car l'œuvre de l'intention est celle-ci : que soit conçu ce qui doit advenir ;

d-maḥshavthā ʿvdhāh hānāw: d-en zādēq nehwe āw lā.

thought's work is this: whether it is right that it be, or not;

l'œuvre de la pensée est celle-ci : si c'est bien qu'il soit, ou non ;

b-w-yānā ʿvādēh hānāw: d-medem da-hwā lā nestraḥ.

comprehension's work is this: that what has come to be not be spoiled;

l'œuvre de la compréhension est celle-ci : que ce qui est advenu ne soit pas gâté ;

sūkālā hādē nāṭar: da-d-lā mūmā neshtakhlal.

understanding keeps this: that it be brought to completion without blemish;

l'entendement garde ceci : qu'il soit mené à son achèvement sans tache ;

ṣvyānā ʿvādēh hānāw: d-en shelmat d-nehwe medem.

the will's work is this: whether it is resolved that something be.

mā d-sharī d-nehwe medem: hādh methqaryā tarʿīthā.

When something begins to come to be, this is called intention;

Quand quelque chose commence à advenir, cela s'appelle intention ;

mūlkānā d-nehwe āw lā: hādē ʾītēyh maḥshavthā.

the counsel whether it shall be or not — this is thought;

le conseil, si cela sera ou non — c'est la pensée ;

mā d-gemrat d-nehwe medem: hān metemar ṣvyānā.

when it is settled that something shall be, this is termed will;

quand il est arrêté que quelque chose sera, cela se nomme volonté ;

d-kad hāwē dēyn nethbayan: hānā ʾītāwhī b-w-yānā.

and when, once it has come to be, it is understood — this is comprehension;

et quand, une fois advenu, cela est compris — c'est la compréhension ;

w-mānā srīḥ bēh mā da-hwā: hādē mḥāwe sūkālā.

and what is amiss in what has come to be — this understanding shows.

w-en ethgmar medem da-hwā: d-methraʿe bēh reʿyānā hāw.

And if what has come to be is completed as the mind had conceived it,

it is understood.

bēyth klhōn ḥadh hāw ʿvādā: w-henōn pāʿlīn shawyāīth.

Among them all the work is one, and they all labor equally;

Parmi elles toutes l'œuvre est une, et elles peinent toutes également ;

w-vātar bātar hāw ʿvādā: l-ḥadh ḥadh qārē b-ʿedānēh.

and one after another that work calls each one in its own time,

aykh ḥeshlāthā d-metharshān: b-kul qūrnāsīn w-lā (h)wā b-ḥadh.

like metals that are forged with many hammers, and not with one,

wa-b-kul mānaī ʾūmānē: methpalḥān w-ken methgamran.

and with all the craftsman's tools they are worked, and then completed.

d-ʾīth emathī d-pālḥā nūrā: w-ʾīth emathī d-kalbtā ḥāshḥā.

For there is a time when fire works, and a time when the tongs are needed;

Car il est un temps où le feu œuvre, et un temps où les pinces sont nécessaires ;

ʾīth emathī d-pālaḥ ṣeṣā: w-ʾīth d-qūrnāsā w-sadānā.

there is a time when the chisel works, and a time for the hammer and the anvil.

w-ʿal klhōn ʿādhyā ḥeshlthā: āp klhōn ʿlēyh hāw

And over them all the forging passes, and upon it they all labor —

hākhwāt

likewise.

de même.

w-hāydēyn shāqlā shūlāmā: w-taṣbīthā men ṣēydh klhōn.

and then it receives completion and adornment from them all.

hākanā klhōn hālēyn: eskēmē d-lākh eshtaʿīth.

Thus are all these forms that I have recounted to you:

b-ḥadh mānā ātēyn klhōn: ḥadh bātar ḥadh ʿadh ḥātēm.

into one vessel they all come, one after another, until it is sealed.

ḥūshābā lā methraʿe: d-hānā ʿbādā d-tarʿītā hāw.

Thought does not conceive that this work is intention's;

La pensée ne conçoit pas que cette œuvre soit celle de l'intention ;

w-lā tarʿīthā methḥashbā: d-hānā ʿvādhā d-ḥūshāvā hāw.

nor does intention reckon that this work is thought's;

ni l'intention ne juge que cette œuvre soit celle de la pensée ;

sūkālā lāw ṣevyānā hāw: w-lā ṣvyānā sūkālā.

understanding is not will, nor is will understanding;

l'entendement n'est pas la volonté, ni la volonté l'entendement ;

ḥdā (h)ī d-methraʿe ba-rnāshā: wa-ḥrēthā (h)ī d-methḥashav.

one thing it is when a man conceives, and another when he deliberates;

une chose est-ce quand un homme conçoit, et une autre quand il délibère ;

ḥdā (h)ī d-rānē w-mestakal: wa-ḥrētā (h)ī (h)ī d-en ṣābē.

one thing it is to consider and understand, and another whether he wills;

une chose est-ce de considérer et de comprendre, et une autre s'il veut ;

w-ʾīth d-methraʿe w-lā mḥashev: d-medem d-lā mnāḥ ethraʿī.

and there is one who conceives but does not deliberate — he has conceived a thing without rest,

lā mḥashev d-aykan nehwe: d-āplā d-nehwe ṣābē (h)wā.

he does not deliberate how it shall be, nor does he even will that it be.

hānāw yaḥṭā d-tarʿīthā: d-lā mraḥpā ʿlāwhī maḥshavthā.

This is the fault of intention: that thought does not hover over it;

Voici la faute de l'intention : que la pensée ne plane pas sur elle ;

kul renyā d-lāw zavnēh hāw: aykh yaḥṭā shāwaḥ w-dāʿēkh.

every thought whose time has not come flares up like a spark and dies out.

ʾīth d-ṣābē w-lā methbayan: wa-d-methbayan w-lā ṣābē.

There is one who wills but does not understand, and one who understands but does not will;

Il en est un qui veut mais ne comprend pas, et un qui comprend mais ne veut pas ;

ʾīth d-ḥāzē ṣvūtā d-payā: wa-d-neqnēyh lā ṣābē bāh.

there is one who sees a fair thing, yet does not wish to possess it;

il en est un qui voit une belle chose, et pourtant ne désire pas la posséder ;

w-ʾīth d-rāḥēm medem da-sne: ṣvā bēh w-lā ḥzā sanyūtēh.

and there is one who loves a hateful thing — he desires it and does not see its hatefulness —

d-ʾīth bēh ḥekhmthā ba-l-ḥōdh: w-layt lēh ʿamāh b-w-yānā.

for in him there is wisdom alone, and comprehension does not accompany it;

car en lui il y a la sagesse seule, et la compréhension ne l'accompagne pas ;

w-ʾīth d-ʾītāwhī sakūlthānā: w-lā ʾīth lēh mdabrānūtā.

and there is one who is intelligent, yet has no governance of himself;

et il en est un qui est intelligent, et pourtant n'a sur lui-même aucun gouvernement ;

ʾīth d-ethraʿī w-lā ḥāshēv: w-ʾīth d-ḥāshēv w-lā dēyn ṣābē.

there is one who conceives but does not reckon, and one who reckons but does not will.

pūrshānā dēyn metemar: d-pārēsh medem men medem.

‘Distinction,’ then, is said of that which separates one thing from another;

« Distinction », donc, se dit de ce qui sépare une chose d'une autre ;

d-ḥērūthā ʿvādāh hānāw: bēyth māwtā l-ḥayē sīmā.

for freedom's work is this: it is set between death and life,

bēyth ṭābāthā l-b-īshāthā: bēyth ʿāūlā l-zadīqūtā.

between good things and evil, between wrong and righteousness.

b-tarʿīthā lā shalīṭā: methraʿyā kad lā ṣavy.

Over intention it has no power, to make it conceive when it does not will;

Sur l'intention elle n'a pas de pouvoir, pour la faire concevoir quand elle ne le veut pas ;

ṣevyānā dēyn metdne lāh: da-thshamesh bēh sūʿrānēyh.

but the will is subject to it, to carry out through it its own works.

l-bar men tarʿīthā klhōn: mshaʿbdhīn enōn l-ḥērūtā.

Apart from intention, all of them are subject to freedom;

Hormis l'intention, toutes sont soumises à la liberté ;

en methpatlīn benyānē: lāw tarʿītā methrashyā.

if structures are twisted awry, it is not intention that is blamed;

si des structures sont tordues de travers, ce n'est pas l'intention qu'on blâme ;

b-w-yānā d-nām hāw askel: w-hāw mettdīn ʿal d-etdamakh.

comprehension is at fault if it has slept, and it is judged for having slumbered.

en lā gmīr medem da-hwā: layt reshyānā l-sūkālā.

If what has come to be is not complete, understanding bears no blame;

Si ce qui est advenu n'est pas complet, l'entendement n'en porte pas le blâme ;

ḥūshāvā fhā l-kā wa-l-khā: wa-hwā lēh athrā l-mūmā.

thought wandered this way and that, and gave room for blemish.

la pensée a erré çà et là, et a fait place à la tache.

en mshamlaī medem da-hwā: lāw ṣvyānā methqalas.

If what has come to be is perfected, it is not the will that is praised;

Si ce qui est advenu est parfait, ce n'est pas la volonté qu'on loue ;

b-w-yānā ettʿīr wa-nṭar: d-lā nehwe bēh sūrḥānā.

comprehension was watchful and kept guard, that no fault be in it.

b-hālēyn klhōn sūrḥānē: lā methnaṣḥā ḥērūthā.

In all these faults, freedom is not vindicated;

Dans toutes ces fautes, la liberté n'est pas justifiée ;

lāw d-īlāh hāw hān ʿamlā: wa-l-rahṭā d-qūshtā sīmā.

this labor is not its own, though it is set toward the race of truth.

b-hālēyn da-l-ghw methrashyā: elā mqadshā ḥūshāvē.

pūmā bāṣ āp ṭaʿmāh: b-sāwqākh rēyḥāh yālēp a(n)t.

the mouth tastes its flavor, and by your breathing you learn its scent;

la bouche en goûte la saveur, et par ton souffle tu en apprends l'odeur ;

b-ʾīdākh geshthh māēsh a(n)t: bēyth klhōn yādhʿīn l-khlāh.

with your hand you feel its touch — among them all its whole is known;

de ta main tu en sens le toucher — parmi eux tous son entier est connu ;

ḥadh menhōn medem menāh: b-khlmedem rāpath hāwnā.

each of them takes some part from it, and the mind is set at ease in everything;

chacun d'eux en prend quelque part, et l'esprit se repose en tout ;

hākhwāth reghshē gāwāyē: bēyth klhōn gāmrīn medem.

likewise the inner senses — among them all they complete the whole.

ap melthā yādhʿīn enōn: reghshē da-b-hōn asīrā.

Even speech they know, the senses by which it is bound;

Même la parole, ils la connaissent, les sens par lesquels elle est liée ;

w-hadāmē ʾīth lāh d-menhōn: methasyā b-medem medem.

and it has members among them, each aiding it in some particular thing.

gebā ḥaylā yāhēv lāh: mūḥā mmadekh mathqen lāh.

the side gives it strength; the brain, softening, prepares it;

le flanc lui donne la force ; le cerveau, en l'amollissant, la prépare ;

pūmā qālā malbash lāh: b-hālēyn melthā meshtamshā.

the mouth clothes it with voice — by these speech is put to use.

ʾīth lāh ḥrānē wa-ḥrānē: hadām da-khdhīnīn lāh.

It has yet other and other members that are bound to it,

wa-b-hōn rāhṭā maḥshavthā: aykh hanyōkhā b-markavthā.

and among them thought runs, like a charioteer in a chariot.

aykā pāhēyt ʾō reʿyānī: thōmā hāw rabā ba-rnāshā.

Where have you wandered, O my mind? Man is a great abyss;

Où as-tu erré, ô mon esprit ? L'homme est un grand abîme ;

b-gāw kūrā d-tartēyn zartīn: praḥt ʾō reʿyānī w-eshtahīt.

within a furnace of two spans, you have flown, O my mind, and been amazed,

l-ʾīw gepaykh ba-ḥrōr paghrā: w-da-thsaykhīwhī lā meshkaḥ a(n)t.

your wings grew weary in the expanse of the body, and you were unable to encompass it;

tes ailes se sont lassées dans l'étendue du corps, et tu n'as pu l'embrasser ;

madhbrā hāw arīkhā w-pathyā: w-yahlē shrēyn bēh d-ḥūshābē.

It is a wilderness, long and wide, in which the tribes of thoughts encamp;

C'est un désert, long et large, où campent les tribus des pensées ;

layt yadaʿthā da-b-kenpyh: tepraḥ teʿbar la-tḥūmāwhī.

there is no knowledge whose wings can fly and pass beyond its bounds;

il n'est pas de connaissance dont les ailes puissent voler et franchir ses limites ;

aynā da-b-rā wa-shbaṭrā: d-nagīr w-arīkh akhwātēh.

what surveyor and measuring-rod is as long and far-reaching as itself?

aydā pqaʿthā da-ḥlīlā: wa-mthīḥā aykh hadāmē.

What valley is as hollow and outstretched as its members?

aynā parāshā meshkaḥ: da-l-paghrā b-ḥēpēh neʿbar.

What horseman is able to outrun the body in swiftness?

w-aydā pāraḥthā maṣyā: d-men ʿeqbēh l-rēshēh tepraḥ.

and what bird is able to fly from its heel to its head?

b-gāw gūshmā d-nāshā lāēyn: hāwnē l-merhaṭ sagyē.

Within the human body, many minds grow weary running,

b-hānā ba-ytā methrdēyn: w-lā mṣyn gāshīn kmā ʾītāwhī.

in this house they are driven about, yet cannot fathom how great it is.

layt lākh d-thāwpe reʿyānā: shalem hāw mā d-lā sharīt.

You cannot exhaust the mind, or finish what you have not begun;

Tu ne peux épuiser l'esprit, ni achever ce que tu n'as pas commencé ;

ʾplā gēyr d-sharīt tesbar: d-shūrāyā qne hāw shūlāmā.

nor indeed, having begun, may you suppose that the beginning has reached its end.

qūm ethbaqā bēh men l-bar: b-hayklā d-paghrā en māōpēyt.

Rise, look upon it from without, if you are able, in the temple of the body;

Lève-toi, regarde-le du dehors, si tu le peux, dans le temple du corps ;

arpā pehyā d-gāwāyē: w-ḥūr ṣūrāthā d-hadāmē.

Let go the wandering after inward things, and look upon the forms of the members.

sthīrāthā d-māryā enēyn: galyāthā d-īlākh enēyn.

The hidden things belong to the Lord; the revealed things are yours.

ḥūr bāh b-hādē kōtīnā: kmā pūrshānē sīmīn bāh.

Look at this tunic — how many distinctions are set in it,

d-āp men l-bar la-mḥār pehyā: akhwātēh d-hāw gāwāyā.

so that even from without one may perceive what matches within.

pōq lākh men b-īrtā da-l-ghāw: men l-bar b-esēyh ethbayan.

Go out from the fortress within; from without, by its foundations, take note;

Sors de la forteresse intérieure ; du dehors, par ses fondations, prends garde ;

tā lākh men rūḥānyāthā: l-hālēyn ḥāwrē paghrānē.

come from spiritual things to these bodily forms.

men l-bar ḥūr bēh b-āpadhnā: d-aykan mpalagh wa-mmashaḥ.

From without, look at the palace, how it is divided and measured out,

d-aykan asīrīn wa-pēyn: medhyārāwhī ba-mṭaksūtā.

how its dwellings are joined and made fair in due order,

wa-d-lā tūv tephe w-teman: b-sōgath ḥāwrē d-ʾūmānā.

so that you may no longer wander and grow weary at the abundance of the craftsman's forms.

ḥūr lākh b-rēshēh d-āpadhnā: mnā taqen ḥakīmā.

Look at the head of the palace — what the wise one has fashioned there;

Regarde le sommet du palais — ce que le sage y a façonné ;

ḥūr aykanā mṣbath lēh: ṣalmā d-apē l-ardhekhlā.

see how the architect has adorned it, the image of the face.

d-khlēh shūprā d-ṣevyānēh: ʿal tapnakh apēyh nasbēh.

For all the beauty of his intent he has set upon the tablet of the face;

Car toute la beauté de son dessein, il l'a posée sur la tablette du visage ;

b-rēsh tedmūrtā d-hadāmē: tedemūrtā ʿbadh ʾūmānā.

at the head of the wonder of the members the craftsman wrought a wonder;

à la tête de la merveille des membres, l'artisan a œuvré une merveille ;

d-hālēyn rghlē klʿedān: nshabḥān henēyn l-ʾūmānā.

so that these feet may forever glorify the craftsman.

ʾīth lāh naḥtā da-b-kul gōn: ṣābaʿā lēh ba-ḥdā shāʿā.

it has a garment of every hue, which dyes itself in a single hour;

il a un vêtement de toute teinte, qui se teint lui-même en une seule heure ;

bēh mshamshā pṣāḥā w-evlā: kad lā shālḥā w-methḥalpā.

in it joy and mourning both are served, though it neither strips off nor is exchanged.

kashīrān apē l-meshlaḥ: wa-l-melbash kul gāwnānīn.

The face is skilled at putting off, and at putting on, every hue;

Le visage est habile à ôter, et à revêtir, toute teinte ;

taʿtūdē l-hēyn sagyēē: d-la-pṣāḥā w-evlā sīmīn.

many are the garments prepared for it, set aside for joy and for mourning.

ḥadh hāw naḥtā wa-mshamesh: b-ḥadwāthā wa-b-ʿāqāthā.

One garment it is, that serves both in joys and in griefs;

Un seul vêtement est-ce, qui sert et dans les joies et dans les peines ;

ʾīth lēh menēh w-bēh ṣūbʿē: d-layt menyānā l-gāwnayhōn.

it has within itself dyes whose hues are beyond number.

kmīrūtā l-ḥashā masraḥ: meshtaḥlap kad lā shālaḥ.

Gloom clothes it for sorrow, changing though it never strips off;

La tristesse le revêt pour le chagrin, se changeant bien qu'il ne se dépouille jamais ;

pṣīḥūtā b-ḥadhwā lābēsh: l-b-w-shēh sagī demwāthā hāw.

gladness clothes it with joy — its garment holds many likenesses.

ākamān apē b-yōm ḥashā: sāmqān tūv b-yōm ḥadwāthā.

The face is dark on the day of sorrow, and ruddy again on the day of joy;

Le visage est sombre au jour du chagrin, et vermeil de nouveau au jour de la joie ;

yārqān tūv b-ṭebā sanyā: methḥadatān b-shemʿā ṭāvā.

it turns pale, too, at ill report, and is renewed at good news.

gāwnē l-ghwnē shārēyn bēh: ṣwvʿānē d-khlʿedā(n)īn.

Colors upon colors dwell in it, dyes of every moment,

aykh gallē ḥadh bātar ḥadh: rāhṭīn b-apē gāwnānē.

like waves, one after another, hues run across the face.

aykh hānā naḥtā memthōm: lā qām l-malkē ba-b-rīthā.

Never has a garment like this stood for kings in all creation,

mṣēyn (h)wāw gēyr elū qnēyn lēh: da-nshamshūn bēh kul demwān.

for they would have been able, had they owned it, to show by it every likeness.

car ils auraient pu, s'ils l'avaient possédé, s'en servir pour montrer toute ressemblance.

b-hādē w-ʾlā da-prīsā: ḥezwā d-apē ethbaqā.

In this veil that is spread out, the appearance of the face is discerned,

d-aykanā mahpkhā napshāh: wa-mḥāwyā lākh kul ṣūrān.

how it turns itself about, and shows you every form.

men aydā da-l-gāw shāqlā: ṣūvʿānē ʿam gāwnānē.

From what is within it takes its dyes, together with its hues;

De ce qui est intérieur il tire ses teintes avec ses couleurs ;

ʾīth lāh d-teghḥakh wa-da-tevke: methkamrā āp methpaṣḥā.

it can laugh, and it can weep; it grows sullen, and it also rejoices.

ʾīth lāh d-tesmaq wa-d-tēraq: methkappā āp methpashṭā.

it can blush, and it can turn pale; it contracts, and it also stretches out.

ḥāshkā w-nāhrā ba-l-b-w-shēyh: w-mettaḥdā āp methpathḥā.

It darkens, and it brightens, in its raiment; it is shut, and it is also opened.

ṣīr bāh lelyā w-ʾīmmā: ḥeshōkhā āp nahīrā.

Painted in it are night and day, the dark and the bright,

b-ḥashāh lelyā ʿamūṭā: b-peṣḥāh ṣaprā nahīrā.

in its grief, night grows dark; in its joy, morning shines.

zḥōrītā ʿam gōn da-hvā: shālḥā w-lābashā b-gāw peghʿē.

Crimson, together with the hue of gold, it puts off and puts on amid life's turns,

ḥūshābē d-mettzīʿīn bāh: gāwnīn gāwnīn yāhbāīn lāh.

for the thoughts stirred within it give it hue upon hue.

ʾw shōshepā d-tedmūrtā: kmā sagīīn ṣūvʿānaykī.

O veil of wonder, how many are your dyes,

aylēyn peqḥē dāmēyn lēkhī: da-b-kul gāwnīn methḥazyatī.

what blossoms are like you, who appear in every color?

bēkhī methīdaʿān kasyāthā: d-reʿyānē d-aykan enēyn.

In you the hidden things of the mind are known, what they are;

En toi se font connaître les choses cachées de l'esprit, ce qu'elles sont ;

en pṣīḥ hāw w-enhw da-khmīr: tarʿītēh bēkhī madhnaḥ lāh.

whether he is glad or whether he is sorrowful, his mind dawns forth in you.

ʿamūdhā a(n)tī d-bēkhī qābaʿ: reʿyānā ṭūpsā d-rāzāwhī.

You are the pillar in which the mind fixes the pattern of its mysteries,

da-nḥāwe l-ʿaynā da-l-bar: en mshayan ʿūmrēh āw lā.

that it may show the outward eye whether its dwelling is at peace, or not.
