asgā lī mrī shūvqānā: d-ītīr men ḥaylī arga(z)tākh.

Increase for me, my Lord, forgiveness, for beyond my strength I have angered you,

ṭaybūtākh tesav b-apaī: w-kēnūtākh tahme qalīl.

let your grace show me favor, and let your justice delay a little.

yādaʿ nā d-khlhēyn shāʿaī: b-ḥṭāhē apqēth enēyn.

I know that all my hours I have spent in sins,

hwāw ʿedānaī ba-ṭīlē: w-shāʿaī gemrēth d-lā yūthrān.

my seasons have become idle, and my hours I have finished without profit.

ettagrēth ʿāūlā b-arʿā: wa-ḥṭīthā b-ḥayaī shelṭat.

I have trafficked in iniquity on earth, and sin has ruled over my life,

shamshēth athrā d-īʿnūtā: da-ṭʿēyth sīmāthā d-ḥayē.

I have served the land of pleasure, for I forgot the treasures of life.

sevrēth da-nyāḥā māwtar: w-eshkaḥtēh kad qāṭal lī.

I supposed that ease would profit me, and I found it killing me.

J'ai cru que l'aisance me profiterait, et je l'ai trouvée qui me tuait.

qarebaynī qdām ṭaybūtākh: mraḥmānā w-shābēq ḥāwbē

Bring me near before your grace, O merciful one and forgiver of debts,

ḥūs ʿal ḥaīī tāḥōbē: w-ethraḥam w-aḥā lī rūḥī.

spare my guilty life, and have mercy, and give life to my spirit.

épargne ma vie coupable, aie pitié, et donne vie à mon esprit.

yādaʿ nā mrī sūrḥānaī: w-vāhēth nā b-hōn ba-ʿvādaī.

I know, my Lord, my transgressions, and I am ashamed of them in my deeds.

nākēp nā d-lā shameshtākh: w-lā neṭrēth melaī pūmākh.

I am ashamed that I have not served you, and have not kept the words of your mouth,

nāmōsākh mēnī ba-ṭīl hāw: w-pūqdānākh lā qabeltēh.

your law has been idle from me, and your commandment I have not received.

b-sēyth b-napshī meṭul b-īshūthī: w-qeṭlēth rūḥī meṭul

I have loathed myself because of my wickedness, and I have killed my spirit because of

mon désir.

sāgēdh nā avā b-rīkhā: shvōq lī ḥāwbaī ba-ḥnānākh.

I worship, O blessed Father: forgive my debts in your compassion.

J'adore, ô Père béni : pardonne mes dettes dans ta compassion.

hav ḥayē l-mīthā d-ghāʿē: w-athrā d-neshkaḥ tyvūtā.

Give life to the dead who cries out, and room to find repentance.

mānā eʿbedh ba-sīmā: d-magrath rūḥākh dāwedtanī.

What shall I do, gracious one, since the patience of your spirit has stricken me with grief?

d-kad ḥāṭē nā lā tbaʿtānī: w-da-ʾhmīt mēnī merdath sagī.

For when I sin you do not require it of me, and you have withheld from me much chastisement,

Car lorsque je pèche, tu ne me le redemandes pas, et tu m'as épargné beaucoup de châtiment,

argshēth dēyn d-kēyn hāw d-īnākh: da-l-ḥartā klnāsh nāsēv.

but I have perceived that your judgment is just: for in the end everyone receives his due.

b-hāw kaylā d-d-īnā methpraʿ: b-hāw yāwmā d-hāwē d-īnā.

With that measure of judgment recompense is made, on the day when judgment comes to pass,

d-lā nāsh mraḥem ʿal ḥavrēh: w-lā nāsh pārēq ḥabībēh.

for no one has mercy on his fellow, and no one delivers his beloved.

da-l-shūnāqā meshtalmīn: ḥaṭāyē d-akhwāthī askelīw.

To torment are given over sinners who have sinned as I have,

prōqaynī pārqā d-beryāthā: w-etdakhraynī savrā b-rīkhā.

save me, Savior of creatures, and remember me, blessed hope.

lā teshdaīnī mārī d-lā ḥāwsān: d-lā ēbadh klhōn yāwmaī.

Do not cast me off, my Lord, without pity, lest all my days be lost,

rdhīnī mekā wa-qnīnī tamān: d-hārkā w-tamn d-īlākh nā.

lead me from here and take me there, for here and there I am yours.

conduis-moi d'ici et prends-moi là, car ici et là je suis à toi.

havlī lebā makīkhā: w-tarʿīthā malyath ḥūbā.

Give me a humble heart, and a mind full of love,

havlan lebā pārōshā: w-tarʿītā malyath shaynā.

give us a discerning heart, and a mind full of peace.

d-en ṣābē w-elā ṣābē: beṭlēth lī men nāshūtā.

Whether one wills it or not, I have been withdrawn from mankind,

lā ḥaylā l-ghūshmā qarīv: w-lā nyāḥā l-rūḥā naqīp.

there is no strength left for the body, and no rest attends the spirit.

āp māzōnā ba-mshūḥtā: b-ṭaybūtā mqabel ʿavdākh.

Even food in due measure, your servant receives by grace,

medam d-ya(h)vt lī hāw ʾīth lī: aylēyn d-layt lī bāʿē nā.

what you have given me, that I have; what I lack, I ask for.

ce que tu m'as donné, je l'ai ; ce qui me manque, je le demande.

aykh d-ya(h)vt lī la-ḥmā d-yāwmā: havlī ḥayē b-malkūtākh.

As you have given me the bread of the day, give me life in your kingdom,

w-hānā gūshmā da-ghvīltākh: lā nethmaskan men naḥtē.

and this body which you have fashioned, let it not be stripped of clothing.

aʿīr reʿyānī sāgēdh nā: w-ḥapeṭtānī ʿal mūlkānayk.

Awaken my mind, I worship you, and rouse me concerning your promises,

wa-d-regath regath paghrā: ḥasā lī meṭul raḥmayk.

and the craving, the desire of the flesh, forgive me for the sake of your mercies.

nvyē shlīḥē āp sāhdē: nraʿōnākh w-ethraʿā lī.

Let the prophets, apostles, and martyrs too be pleased with you, and be reconciled to me,

b-sīr nā sagī ba-ḥṭāhaī: w-lā ṭāʿē nā b-w-ṣāraī.

I am greatly despised in my sins, and I do not forget my faults.

āpen b-hādē ʿbedh w-aḥānī: d-ʿāhēd nā yāwmā d-d-īnā.

Even in this, act, and give me life, for I remember the day of judgment,

klʿedān dān nā napshī: wa-mqaṭregh nā la-ḥṭāhaī.

at every moment I judge my own soul, and I accuse my sins.

d-en ʾītāwhī mrī sāṭānā: sāṭānā sagī shaḥqanī.

For if it is Satan, my Lord, Satan has greatly oppressed me,

Car si c'est Satan, mon Seigneur, Satan m'a grandement opprimé,

w-en lā ʾītāwhī sāṭānā: aykh sāṭānā qeṭlēth rūḥī.

and if it is not Satan, like Satan I have killed my spirit.

d-lā (h)ī d-ṣvyānī ʿābēdh nā: d-lā ṣābē nā sāʿar nā.

For that which is my will, I do not do; that which I do not will, I do.

Car ce qui est ma volonté, je ne le fais pas ; ce que je ne veux pas, je le fais.

w-kad mathwaī nā āmar nā: d-lā denḥat shemshākh wa-zkēyth.

And while I repent, I say, "your sun has not risen, yet I have already won."

w-khlēh yāwmā lā yetarēth: shalmēth b-ramshā ba-ḥṭāhē.

And the whole day I profited nothing; I ended the evening in sins,

w-qa(d)mēth b-ṣaprā ba-ḥṭāhē: ḥūnaynī b-ṣaprā wa-b-ramshā.

and I began the morning in sins; have mercy on me in the morning and in the evening.

d-ba-thrayhōn ʿāūlā ʿevdēth: l-aykā eʿrōq men d-īnā.

For in both I have done iniquity: where shall I flee from judgment,

w-estatar men gēhanā: aykā eʿrōq w-etṭashe:

and hide from Gehenna? Where shall I flee and be hidden

et me cacherai-je de la géhenne ? Où fuirai-je et me cacherai-je

men kēnūtā b-nūḥāmā. ʾīt (h)wā lēh ṭarpē l-ādām:

from justice at the resurrection? Adam had leaves;

de la justice à la résurrection ? Adam avait des feuilles ;

shqal (h)wā kasī pūrsāyēh. b-nūḥāmā d-layt ʾīlānē:

he took a covering for his shame, but at the resurrection, where there are no trees,

l-aykā eʿrōq w-ethpaṣ: w-etṭashe lā yādaʿ nā.

where shall I flee and escape? To hide, I do not know how.

où fuirai-je et échapperai-je ? Pour me cacher, je ne sais comment.

enhw d-esaq lī l-ṭūrā: nāpal nā lī b-mathqālā.

If I go up to the mountain, I fall into the balance,

w-en etṭashe b-rāmāthā: hāwē nā lī b-masathā.

and if I hide among the heights, I shall be found in the scale.

w-enhw tūv da-b-gāw tēbēyl: nāpēl nā lī ba-zwārākh.

And if again in the midst of the world, I fall under your yoke,

w-enhw d-eḥōth la-thhōmā: pākhrā lī tamān ʾīdākh.

and if I go down to the deep, your hand binds me there,

w-enhw d-esaq la-shmayā: maḥthā lī mārī kēnūtākh.

and if I go up to heaven, your justice, my Lord, brings me down.

eprōʿ rēshī aykh zānīthā: w-asge demʿaī ʿal ḥāwbaī.

I will let down my hair like the harlot, and multiply my tears over my sins.

ʾṣale lākh aykh dāwīdh: w-erhaṭ eḥzēykh aykh zakaī.

I will pray to you like David, and run to see you like Zacchaeus,

eʿrōq w-eṭshe bēyth qūdshā: w-evʿe raḥmē ʿal ḥāwbaī.

I will flee and hide in the sanctuary, and beg mercy for my debts.

ʾō shāmōʿā ḥaṭāyā: layt lākh mekēyl pūrqānā.

O sinful hearer, there is no longer salvation for you.

for behold, this one stands who said, "do not sin, and come into my hands."
