bāthrēh ezalw w-āp ʿūdrānhōn b-ʾīdāwhī eshrḥūhī:

They followed him, and entrusted their help to his hands,

w-āwrēvw w-qalsūhī w-āp d-w-bārēh l-ʿēyn kul akhrzūhī.

and praised him and exalted him, and proclaimed his way of life before every eye.

b-khlēh lebhōn ettalmadw lēh w-lā sākh arpyūhī:

With all their heart they became his disciples, and never let him go,

w-vādēq rzē w-pīlāsōp d-rūḥā shamhūhī.

and called him searcher of mysteries and philosopher of the Spirit.

hākan w-yatīr ʾīthāwhī avūn aykh d-arīmūhī:

Thus, and more, is our father, as they exalted him,

wa-b-zahyūtēh ba-d-mūth shlīḥē da-myūhī w-paḥmūhī.

and in his radiance they likened him to the apostles, and compared him with them.

ba-ṣlōth avūn men bēyth maʿmrēh l-b-īshā apqūhī:

By our father's prayer they drove the evil one out of his dwelling,

wa-l-hāl ṭardūhī wa-l-ḥaylēh kēyth ḥsanīw (h)wāw w-ba-rūhī.

and chased him away, and overpowered his host, and scattered it.

l-zarkōn b-īsht l-bar men tḥūmē shdhāūhī w-zanqūhī:

The evil dragon they cast out beyond the borders, and flung away,

w-ba-d-mūth ʿqarbē w-rḥshā armyūhī w-ba-rgel dāshūhī.

and like scorpions and creeping things they threw him down, and trampled him underfoot.

l-ṣevt d-shēdē kēyth l-qenyānhōn sḥapw (h)wāw w-ba-zūhī:

As for the band of demons, they swept away their wealth and plundered it,

wa-l-shūr ʿūshnēh b-zēyn mūkākhhōn zaʿzʿūhī w-haghmūhī.

and the walls of his strength they shook and destroyed with the weapon of their humility.

l-yūlpān avūn gamrūhī w-ʿūmrēh athqnūhī w-ṣabthūhī:

They carried out our father's teaching, and set his monastery in order and adorned it,

w-aykh kārōzē b-ednaī klnāsh akhrzūhī w-āwdʿūhī.

and like heralds, in all ears, they proclaimed him and made him known.

Our own father humbled and brought low the archon of the air,

All the disputes of the sons of his likeness he gave over to destruction,

w-kul d-ethharṭaq aykh qewrelōs atakh w-takhtekh.

and everyone who became a heretic like Cyril he crushed and broke in pieces.

The sword of the Spirit he gripped in his hand like an athlete,

Blessed are you, our father, for the archon of evil was broken before you,

Heureux es-tu, notre père, car l’archonte du mal fut brisé devant toi,

By their own will the demon blinded and darkened their minds,

and the healers and the moles left them, and their minds grew dark.

ʿal hād mārkh nūr rghōz ʿlayhōn armī w-ṭakhṭek:

For this your Lord cast a fire of wrath on them, and set it ablaze,
